Spirited Rally to Save M8 Bus
On Saturday, February 21, a spirited group of 150 to 200 East and West Village residents converged on Astor Square to rally in support of saving the M8 Bus. Braving the cold and chanting “Save the M8!” and “Shame on the MTA!”, they listened to speeches from a diverse group of local politicians, community activists, and Village residents who rely on the bus every day.
A Night at the Hilton: Having a Ball with the MTA
“Let us in! Let us in!” Beginning with a whisper, an increasingly loud collective chant arose from those barred entry into the Hilton Hotel’s Trianon Ballroom for the Metroplitan Transit Authority’s public hearing on service cuts last January 14th. I am concerned with the provision in the current Pier 40 Plan for school drop-off/pick-up facilities to accommodate private cars. At a time when more and more emphasis is being put on establishing alternative modes of transportation, such as public transit and bicycling (not to mention walking), to save precious [...]
Community Board 2 Votes to Extend M8 Crosstown Bus at Pier 40
Right now, if you walk down to the West Side Highway at West 10th Street, you will find the 8th Street crosstown bus waiting to start its scheduled run. WestView’s publisher had suggested to Community Board 2’s transportation committee that the bus should extend to Pier 40 so that kids, oldsters and the 2,000 car [...]
