Ofrenda - A New Offering!
February 2010
Ofrenda translates to “offering” and is associated with memories of ancestors. Ofrenda’s food is truer Mexican than the Texas variety. It does have nuance and some contemporary accents including more garlic and pomegranates. Enjoyed the Chayote Relleno, a starchy Mexican vegetable with a hint of cucumber, stuffed with cheese and spiced with a bit of heat. The Flounder Veracruz was updated to Salmon and well prepared with just the right amount of capers and olives. The lamb was nicely cooked rare and well complemented with good amounts of garlic and flavorful mushrooms.
Cocktails at Ofrenda have been thoughtfully developed by Jorge and the list begins with a Mangorita—a fruity flavored and not overly sweet take on her sister. A young and energetic Luis and his partners and staff are eager to please from 8 a.m. till almost midnight. —D.P.
