HOLIDAY EVENT

May 10, 1 p.m.: Mother’s Day Tea in the Garden An old-fashioned afternoon tea in the Merchant’s House Museum’s 19th-century style garden. Dainty sandwiches, scones with clotted cream, and tempting sweets will be served, followed by a tour of the Museum. $40 per person; $30 MHM members. Merchant’s House Museum (29 East 4th Street). May 4, 6 p.m.: Double Feature

“Lyrical Nitrate” and The Forbidden Quest”:The Found-Footage Films of Peter Delpeut. (121 min.) “Lyrical Nitrate” (1990), directed by Peter Delpeut, is made up of rotting early 20th century nitrate film that he found in the attic of an Amsterdam theater. In “Forbidden Quest” (1993), he braids together a story about an expedition riddled with death and deception using images from journeys to the North and South Poles. May 27, 6:15-9 p.m.: “Next Stop, Greenwich Village”(1976)The story of a young man who moves to Greenwich Village while he waits for his big break in becoming a Hollywood star. May 14-May 23: Register for Turn 2 Baseball Clinics A baseball clinic sponsored by Derek Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation will take place July 8- July 11, where the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, throwing pitching and base running will be taught be experienced coaches. May 15, 7-10 a.m.: National Bike to Work Day Meet up with Transportation Alternatives at the East River Bridges (Queensboro, Williamsburg, Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridge) plus Madison Square Park, City Hall Park, and Greenwich Village. Stop by on your bike for some hot coffee, quality reading material and your extreme commuter bag! Free.

May 3, 3 p.m.: Park Avenue Chamber Symphony Gala A concert focused on the music of Antonin Dvorák featuring New York Philharmonic principal cellist Carter Brey in Dvorák’s Cello Concerto. May 10, 2 p.m.: Parker String Quartet

The New York Times calls the Parker Quartet “something extraordinary,” the Boston Globe hails its “fiercely committed performances,” and The Washington Post declares it “a quartet that deserves close attention.” Three months after winning the 2005 Concert Artists Guild Competition, the Quartet captured First Prize and the Mozart Prize at the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition.
