On January 28th, 2009 the Meatpacking District’s exclusive 1Oak - an epicenter of Page Six-style gossip and celebrity sightings - became the stage for the unveiling of Sachika: a fashion line created by the Vietnamese twin sister duo To-Nya and To-Tam Ton-Nu.

At 9:35 pm, with D.J. Lyle Quache’s rhythmic beat as cadence, the red-haired model Ginger and twelve other beautiful young women wearing the Sachika label owned the red-taped runway surrounded by an eager crowd. Without missing a beat they strutted past the bar, enigmatically etched with Charles Darwin quotations, and onward into the unrelenting and rapid fire of a dozen photographers’ flashes. These women embodied the Sachika spirit of graceful elegance under the lights.

To-Nya and To-Tam know about pressure. Known as the Dream Team they were honored with the title “Rookies of the Year” in 2008 at their Hudson Street Citi Habitats’ office on Hudson and Perry Streets. They are forward-thinking urban women who will not compromise the sacred art of Zen. Inspired by the West Village’s hip street fashion which is “trendy, sophisticated, and functional,” To-Nya said that Sachika is “more than a label, it is a movement” with the central philosophy that women can balance their “career, social life, and family” with ease.

To-Tom added, “A woman’s beauty comes from within,” and that is why they tailor the clothing and dress to wearer. Unlike other designers who elevate a particular body-type above all others these sisters believe that being true to the feminine requires accentuating and honoring the beauty inherent in every woman. Sachika is To-Nya’s name in Japanese, and it means “more wishes, more happiness and more fortune.”
