Da Andrea Moves to 13th Street
February 2009, by Kaveri S. Marathe
For those of you in saffron fettucine withdrawl, have no fear, Hudson favorite, Da Andrea, will reopen this month at a new location at 35 West 13th Street, between Fifth and 6th Avenues.
Co-owner/chefs Andrea Vecchietti and Gianpietro Branchi chose to make the move after a steep rent hike-from $10,000 a month to $30,000-from landlord Bill Gottlieb. Their old space at 557 Hudson Street is, as yet, unoccupied.
Though the new location is slightly farther east than they desired, Vecchietti called it, “a blessing in disguise.”
“We tried in the West Village,” he said, “but there are not many places and the rent is too high.”
With 20 more seats than their old location, the new 1,000 square foot space will also accommodate an event room in the rear of the restaurant. The décor will remain similar: warm yellow walls, wood paneling and rustic wooden tables. They will also be opening for lunch, something new for the formerly dinner-only restaurant. Vecchietti said the menu will be light, mainly soups and salads.
The dinner menu and its prices will remain the same. We wish them the best of luck at their new home!
